Last updated: September 2026 · Company facts, current plans and guarantee terms checked against Terminix and Rentokil sources
Pest Price Guide is independent. We do not sell pest-control services, have no business relationship with Terminix and do not accept payment from pest-control companies for favorable placement.
Terminix is one of the largest residential pest-control brands in the United States, but evaluating a Terminix quote requires more than comparing a monthly payment.
The company currently advertises free initial pest and termite inspections, recurring general pest plans, one-time treatment and specialized services for termites, bed bugs, mosquitoes and wildlife.
Its PestFree365 plans also illustrate why homeowners should read the service scope carefully. The standard plan covers 25 common household pests, while PestFree365+ expands protection to 39 pests, including several that may otherwise require specialized treatment.
Meanwhile, Terminix’s termite program includes a retreat guarantee and, for qualifying plans and homes, repair coverage for new termite damage up to $250,000.
This Terminix review focuses on those verifiable details: what the plans include, how recurring service works, what the termite guarantee actually says and what homeowners should compare before signing.
Compare the complete service agreement rather than the brand name. Record the initial charge, annual cost, scheduled visits, covered pests, callback policy, termite coverage, renewal terms and cancellation provisions before choosing a plan.

Who owns Terminix?
Terminix became part of Rentokil Initial when Rentokil completed its acquisition of the company in October 2022.
Rentokil’s 2022 annual report described Terminix at the time of acquisition as the largest pest-control brand in the United States, performing approximately 50,000 customer visits per day from around 375 locations across 47 states.
The same report stated that Terminix served approximately 2.9 million customers at that time and generated more than 80% of its service revenue from recurring services.
Those numbers are useful historical benchmarks, but they describe Terminix at the time of the acquisition rather than a guaranteed current branch count.
For homeowners, ownership matters mainly because the service agreement is backed by a large multinational pest-control organization. However, corporate scale does not tell you what a particular treatment will cost or how an individual local office will perform.
How Terminix pest-control plans work
Terminix currently presents three broad general-pest options on its residential pest-control site.
| Plan | Current advertised structure |
|---|---|
| PestFree365 | Inspection, protection from 25 common household pests, regularly scheduled treatments and return service if covered pests come back |
| PestFree365+ | Expanded protection for 39 pests, including 14 additional pests that may require more specialized treatment |
| One-time pest control | Inspection, treatment for one eligible pest and a 30-day return-treatment guarantee |
This distinction is important because two homeowners can both say they have “Terminix pest control” while purchasing substantially different coverage.
Therefore, identify the exact plan before comparing prices or customer experiences.
What does PestFree365 cover?
Terminix currently advertises protection from 25 common household pests under PestFree365.
The covered categories include common household ants, cockroaches, mice, rats, silverfish, certain spiders, scorpions, centipedes, millipedes, earwigs, house crickets and other listed pests.
PestFree365+ expands the list to 39 pests. The additional group can include pests such as carpenter ants, fire ants, black widow spiders, brown recluse spiders, yellowjackets, hornets and several others.
However, there is an important detail in Terminix’s published terms: some pests may require an additional curative charge when an infestation already exists at the initial inspection.
Ask whether your current infestation is included in the quoted initial price. A pest can appear on a plan’s covered list while still being subject to additional treatment charges under certain conditions.
How often does Terminix visit?
Billing frequency and treatment frequency should not be treated as the same thing.
Terminix’s current PestFree365 explanation shows an initial service that includes inspection, treatment and a follow-up visit. Monthly billing can then begin even though recurring technician service occurs approximately every three months under the plan shown on its current website.
Terminix’s published general pest agreement also describes service schedules that can vary by location.
Therefore, ask for the number of physical technician visits rather than assuming monthly billing means monthly treatment.
Convert the plan into cost per scheduled visit
Suppose a hypothetical plan costs $720 during the first year and includes six physical service visits.
$720 ÷ 6 = $120 per scheduled visit.
A second hypothetical plan could cost $640 and include four visits:
$640 ÷ 4 = $160 per scheduled visit.
The second plan costs less annually but more per scheduled visit.
Neither number alone determines which proposal is appropriate. However, doing the calculation reveals what you are actually buying.
How Terminix pricing works
Terminix does not have one national price that applies to every U.S. homeowner.
Its current website explains that local pricing depends on factors including the pests in the area and the size of the home.
The company therefore asks for the service address before displaying location-specific plan prices.
This makes third-party statements such as “Terminix costs $X per month” useful only as rough market context.
The actual proposal for your property is more important.
For broader benchmarks across providers, see our pest control cost guide.
Calculate the first-year Terminix cost
The easiest way to compare recurring plans is to convert every quote into a first-year total.
Initial charge + recurring payments + mandatory additional fees = first-year cost.
For example, suppose a hypothetical quote includes a $199 initial charge and four recurring services at $129 each.
$199 + ($129 × 4) = $715.
Now suppose another provider quotes a $99 initial charge plus $55 per month for 12 months.
$99 + ($55 × 12) = $759.
The second proposal advertises a much smaller initial payment, but its hypothetical first-year total is higher.
Always compare annualized costs using the actual payment schedule in the contract.
Does Terminix offer free inspections?
Yes. Terminix currently advertises free initial inspections for pest and termite services.
The company’s main website states that its initial termite and other pest inspections are free and that the inspection is used to create a customized pest-management plan.
Terminix also maintains dedicated scheduling pages for free termite, general pest and wildlife inspections.
However, a free inspection is part of a company’s sales process. Therefore, use it as an information-gathering opportunity rather than treating the first proposal as your only option.
What to request during the inspection
- The pest identified
- Evidence supporting the identification
- Areas where activity was found
- Conditions contributing to the problem
- Recommended treatment
- Number of visits
- Covered pests
- Guarantee terms
- Total first-year price
Our free pest inspection guide explains how to compare these visits.
Terminix termite plans
Termite service deserves separate treatment because it is not simply another general-pest plan.
Terminix currently advertises several levels of termite protection.
| Termite option | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Termite + Retreat Guarantee | Termite protection plus return treatment if qualifying termite activity returns |
| Termite + Repair Guarantee | Adds qualifying new termite-damage repair coverage up to $250,000 |
| Termite + Repair + PestFree365+ | Combines termite repair protection with ongoing general pest coverage |
These plans should not be compared only by annual price because the repair obligation can be substantially different.
Our termite treatment cost guide explains the treatment methods separately.
What the $250,000 termite guarantee actually means
The headline number deserves careful qualification.
Terminix currently states that its eligible Termite + Repair plans can provide up to $250,000 toward qualifying new termite damage.
However, published Terminix terms contain several important limitations.
- The repair guarantee is available only for qualifying homes.
- It is not available in every area.
- Termite species coverage depends on the plan purchased.
- The damage must qualify under the plan terms.
- The $250,000 amount is an aggregate limit across the life of the plan, including renewal periods.
- Additional limitations apply.
It is a contractual pest-control guarantee subject to eligibility, covered termite species, plan requirements, exclusions and a lifetime aggregate limit. Read the actual agreement before assigning financial value to the repair protection.
For a deeper comparison of retreat-only and repair protection, see our termite bond cost guide.
Retreatment guarantee vs repair guarantee
These protections solve different problems.
A retreat guarantee addresses the pest problem. If qualifying termites return, the provider returns and treats them under the terms of the plan.
A repair guarantee addresses certain qualifying new damage as well.
Therefore, two termite plans can both promise to return if termites reappear while offering very different financial protection if new wood damage occurs.
When comparing termite proposals, create separate rows for:
- Retreatment
- Annual inspection
- Repair coverage
- Repair limit
- Species covered
- Excluded damage
- Annual renewal cost
Terminix It Guarantee for general pest control
Terminix currently advertises the Terminix It Guarantee with its recurring pest plans.
If covered pests return between scheduled treatments, Terminix states that it will return at no additional cost.
The company’s one-time pest service uses a shorter version: if the eligible pest returns within 30 days, Terminix states that it will return at no extra charge.
Those guarantees can add value, but only when the pest you are dealing with is covered.
Therefore, ask whether your exact pest is included and whether any curative surcharge or specialty treatment applies.
Terminix contract terms: read these sections
Terminix publishes general pest-control terms that provide useful examples of what homeowners should examine in their own agreements.
The published terms address:
- Pests covered
- Pests not covered
- Number of services
- Initial appointment
- Service contract and charges
- AutoPay
However, the agreement offered to you is the document that controls your purchase.
Before signing, identify the contract term, renewal provisions, payment schedule, cancellation process and any charges that survive cancellation.
Our pest control quote guide provides a broader contract checklist.
Understand AutoPay separately from cancellation
This is a subtle but useful distinction in Terminix’s published general pest terms.
The published agreement states that the customer authorizes automatic debit of recurring service charges and describes how that payment authorization can be canceled.
However, it also states that canceling the payment authorization does not cancel obligations under the service agreement.
“How do I stop AutoPay?” and “How do I cancel the pest-control contract?” are not necessarily the same question. Confirm both processes separately.
This is exactly the kind of contract detail that can prevent a later billing dispute.
Do not assume a universal cancellation fee
The amount owed after cancellation depends on the agreement rather than a universal Terminix rule that can safely be applied to every customer.
Likewise, cooling-off rights can depend on how and where the contract was sold and on applicable state or federal consumer law.
Therefore, do not rely on a review article to tell you that every Terminix customer can cancel within a particular number of days or for a fixed fee.
Read the agreement and applicable consumer-protection rules for your transaction.
Our pest control cancellation fee guide explains the issue in more detail.
How to use Terminix customer reviews
Customer reviews can help identify questions worth asking, but they should not be treated as a random survey of Terminix customers.
People who post reviews voluntarily can differ substantially from the complete customer population.
In addition, Terminix operates across many markets, so experiences involving one local operation should not automatically be generalized nationwide.
Instead of relying only on an aggregate star score, search reviews for the service you are considering.
Useful search terms
- Termite guarantee
- Inspection
- Technician
- Scheduling
- Callback
- Billing
- Cancellation
- Renewal
- Rodent exclusion
Then check whether the reviewer describes the same branch, plan and pest problem that applies to you.
How to evaluate a complaint
Instead of counting every complaint equally, record what actually happened.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which service? | General pest, termites, wildlife and exclusion can have different contracts. |
| Which location? | A national brand can have different local operations. |
| What failed? | Treatment, scheduling, billing and cancellation are different problems. |
| Was the agreement clear? | Some disputes involve expectations that differ from written terms. |
| Was it resolved? | A resolved complaint provides different information from an unresolved one. |
This framework extracts more useful information from customer reports than simply averaging stars.
Terminix vs Orkin
Terminix and Orkin both operate large national pest-control networks, but homeowners should compare the actual proposals available at their addresses rather than assuming one company is universally preferable.
Normalize both quotes for:
- Initial charge
- First-year total
- Renewal cost
- Scheduled visits
- Covered pests
- Free callbacks
- Termite coverage
- Repair protection
- Contract term
- Cancellation provisions
Our Terminix vs Orkin comparison applies that framework to both companies.

Seven questions to ask before signing
- Which exact plan am I buying?
- Which pests are included at the quoted price?
- How many physical service visits occur during the first year?
- What happens if a covered pest returns between visits?
- What is the complete first-year cost?
- What will the plan cost when it renews?
- What does the written agreement require if I cancel?
For termite service, also ask whether you are purchasing retreat-only coverage or repair protection.
Our methodology
Pest Price Guide has not commissioned a controlled Terminix service test and does not maintain a proprietary database of Terminix invoices.
Therefore, this review does not assign Terminix a star rating or claim to measure nationwide customer satisfaction.
For current plans, covered pests, inspection policies and guarantees, we prioritize Terminix’s own published materials. Company sources are the appropriate evidence for determining what Terminix currently advertises and what its published plan terms say.
For ownership and acquisition history, we use Rentokil Initial corporate reporting.
Company sources cannot independently establish customer satisfaction or treatment quality. Likewise, voluntary customer reviews cannot establish a representative nationwide satisfaction rate.
For that reason, the two evidence types are kept separate.
The first-year cost calculation, cost-per-visit method, complaint-analysis table and quote worksheets are Pest Price Guide tools designed to help homeowners compare proposals consistently.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Terminix cost?
Terminix pricing varies by location, home and pest problem. The company requests an address before displaying local plan pricing, so compare the complete first-year quote rather than relying on a national monthly estimate.
Does Terminix offer free inspections?
Yes. Terminix currently advertises free initial termite and other pest inspections. Confirm what the inspection includes for your specific pest and address.
How many pests does PestFree365 cover?
Terminix currently advertises protection from 25 common household pests with PestFree365. PestFree365+ expands the list to 39 pests.
What is the Terminix It Guarantee?
For recurring covered pest service, Terminix states that if covered pests return between treatments, it will return at no additional cost. One-time eligible pest treatments currently include a 30-day version of the guarantee.
What is the Terminix termite repair guarantee?
Eligible Termite + Repair plans can include repair of qualifying new termite damage up to an aggregate limit of $250,000. Eligibility, species coverage, geographic availability and other limitations apply.
Does the $250,000 guarantee cover existing termite damage?
The guarantee is described as protection for qualifying new termite damage rather than a blanket payment for pre-existing damage. Read the plan for the exact exclusions and eligibility requirements.
Does monthly Terminix billing mean monthly service?
Not necessarily. Terminix’s current PestFree365 explanation separates monthly billing from recurring technician visits. Ask how many physical service visits are included during your contract year.
Can I cancel a Terminix contract?
Cancellation terms depend on the agreement. Review the contract term, renewal provisions, cancellation procedure and any financial obligations before signing.
Final thoughts
A useful Terminix review should help you understand the service agreement rather than tell you whether a national brand is universally good or bad.
Terminix currently offers free initial inspections, recurring pest plans covering either 25 or 39 listed pests, return treatments for covered pest activity and specialized termite plans that can include substantial repair protection.
Those features still require careful comparison. Coverage varies by plan, certain existing infestations can involve additional charges and the termite repair guarantee has eligibility requirements and limitations.
Before purchasing service, calculate the first-year total, count the actual technician visits, identify the pests covered and read the cancellation and renewal provisions.
For termite protection, go one step further: separate retreat coverage from repair coverage and identify exactly what the $250,000 limit does—and does not—protect.
That gives you a much more useful basis for comparing Terminix with Orkin, a local company or any other pest-control provider.
